Linear/Rotary Bearing

LM76 was called by a major
defense contractor to design a linear, rotary bearing that would
take high loads, high temperatures, high speeds and provide long
life. The bearing would also be exposed to solvent based vapors.
We needed a bearing material that could handle all of these parameters
plus maintain dimensional stability. LM76
engineers designed a two piece construction which consists of
a ceramic coated aluminum shell and a Vespel®
21, self-lubricating bearing insert.
The insert is pressed into the
shell calculating co-efficients
of expansion
and contraction - arriving at a suitable running
clearance. Vespel®
21 is made from polyimide resins to combine the
best
characteristics of plastics, metals and ceramics. Vespel®
accommodates high speeds, handles up to 300,000 PV
and constant
temperatures up to 550° F.

* Minuteman Ceramic Coated bearings
require lubrication. To date ( since 1976 )
we have not encountered a failure due to system velocity.
